Meet Mary-Kate and Ashley, the Tween Queen Twins! Your new best friends have just arrived... How do the White Oak girls plan to spend Valentine's day? Probably watching romantic DVDs, that's what! Only problem is, the dorm DVD player is broken. Mary-Kate has a great idea: they'll do singing telegrams for Valentine's day, charge their chums and earn enough for a new DVD. Great plan - until Mary-Kate finds she has to deliver a singing telegram to her own boyfriend - from another girl! Meanwhile, Ashley's desperate for class science wizz Victor to be her biology tutor, so she'll do well in her coursework. Victor agrees, as long as Ashley can get him a date with Kiara. Truble is, Kiara's cool - really cool. And Victor's more... lukewarm! Can she transform him into a hottie, get Kiara to like him and ace her coursework?

Two of a Kind #33: Heart to Heart Chapter One Monday Dear Diary, I used to think Valentine's Day was a totally lame holiday. A heart-shaped box doesn't make the chocolates taste any better, does it? And who wants a pink musical teddy bear that plays love songs? Not me. That is, until I met Jordan Marshall! "Twelve days to go," I told my reflection in the fogged-up bathroom mirror. I stuck my toothbrush in my mouth. Beside me my twin sister, Ashley, laughed. "Don't tell me! You're actually counting the days until Valentine's Day?" Oops! I hadn't realized I had said those words out loud! My mouth was full of toothpaste, so I just nodded. Cheryl Miller, Summer Sorensen, and Phoebe Cahill all glanced my way and grinned. We were crowded in front of the mirror, getting ready for the day. When you're in boarding school, you get used to sharing everything -- including the bathroom! We're all in First Form -- which is what they call the seventh grade here at the White Oak Academy for Girls in New Hampshire. At Porter House, our dorm, we share pretty much everything: clothes, makeup, shampoo, blow-dryers -- and now my excitement for Valentine's Day! "It's my first Valentine's Day with Jordan," I said. "That makes it special!" "What about you, Ashley?" Ashley's roommate, Phoebe, asked. "Doing something special for Valentine's Day with Ross?" Ashley's eyes lit up -- like they always do whenever her boyfriend, Ross Lambert, is mentioned. Our friends back home were surprised to hear we had boyfriends. That's because the White Oak Academy is an all-girls school. So we explained that the Harrington School for Boys is right up the road. We have classes and activities together. In fact, I met my boyfriend, Jordan, in fencing class! How swashbuckling is that ? Ashley's smile quickly faded. "We probably won't do anything. I should be studying for the big biology test." She sighed. "It's in four weeks." "Four weeks?" I stared at Ashley. "And you want to start studying now ?" Phoebe looked surprised, too. "Didn't you just take a biology test yesterday?" she asked. "Yes, and I'm worried about how I did," Ashley confessed. "My grades in bio haven't been so hot lately." I glanced at my sister's frowning face in the mirror. Her hair is the same color blond as mine. And our eyes are almost the same blue. We're alike in a lot of ways -- but we're also pretty different. Ashley likes writing, fashion design, ballet, and shopping for new clothes. I like drama, basketball, baseball -- and borrowing Ashley's new clothes! Ashley is great in math and in English. She even writes for the First Form school paper, the White Oak Acorn . But for some reason she doesn't seem to get bio. When she bombed the last bio exam, it was the first time she didn't do okay on a test. And that's not okay with Ashley! "Do you think you failed?" Phoebe asked. Ashley shook her head. "No way. My grade should be pretty good," she said. "Victor Nichols in my bio class tutored me." "Who?" Summer asked. "He just won the science fair with his insect project," Ashley said. "Remember?" "How can we forget?" Cheryl groaned. "Part of his project escaped and crawled all over the dining hail!" Summer laughed. "Now I know who you mean!" She tilted her head to one side as she braided her long blond hair. "Hmm. I suppose Victor Nichols is kind of cute in a nerdy, science-geek way," she said. "But he's not exactly a hottie." "Who cares?" Ashley said. "As long as he knows his amoebas!" "Amoebas?" I said, wrinkling my nose. "They're microscopic single-celled animals," Ashley explained. "They were on my last science test." I was impressed. Ashley was learning biology! "Is Victor going to tutor you for the next test?" Phoebe asked Ashley. "I didn't ask him," Ashley admitted, reaching for her toothbrush. "I don't want to be a bother." She turned to me. "Why don't you help me study for the next test, Mary-Kate?" she asked. "You're pretty good in science." "I'm not taking bio this semester," I reminded her. "I haven't gotten up to amoebas yet." "Oh," Ashley said with a frown. "That's right." "Hey," Cheryl said. "Isn't your dad a college science professor?" Ashley and I nodded. "Then why don't you ask him for help, Ashley?" Cheryl suggested. "Are you kidding?" Ashley cried. "I can't tell my dad I'm not doing well in a subject he teaches. He'd be so disappointed." "That's true, Ashley," I said. "But Dad will be even more disappointed if you bomb the next test." Ashley stared at her reflection in the mirror. Then she nodded. "Okay. I'll ask Victor to tutor me." "Good move!" I said. "Well, now that my problem is solved," Ashley said, leaning on the sink, "what's everyone else doing on Valentine's Day?" Cheryl dragged a brush through her wavy brown hair. "What I do every Valentine's Day," she said. "Watch romantic DVDs in the TV room and hope that someday they'll be about me." "No, you won't." Phoebe tied a short scarf around her hair. "The DVD player is broken. Remember? Mrs. Pritchard made an announcement about it. She can't replace it right now because it's not in the budget." Mrs. Pritchard is the headmistress of White Oak. Whatever she says -- goes! If she says no DVD, that means no DVD. Cheryl moaned. "And they got rid of the VCR when they got the DVD player." "Exactly," Phoebe said. Cheryl frowned. "This stinks!" she grumbled. "Dateless girls at this school have been watching romantic movies on Valentine's Day for years. It's another White Oak tradition -- like oatmeal for breakfast every morning." "Don't worry, Cheryl," I said. "There'll be lots of romantic movies on TV." "Like those amazing classic black-and-white Hollywood movies," Phoebe said. She closed her eyes, and a dreamy smile crossed her face. " Casablanca ... Laura ..." "The 101 Dalmations !" Summer interrupted. Cheryl stared at Summer. " The 101 Dalmations ?" Summer nodded. "They're black and white!" Two of a Kind #33: Heart to Heart . Copyright © by Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen.
