Library Journal Review
What is it like to open a McDonald's in Saudi Arabia, much less Tahiti? What kind of business sense is necessary to make it a success? These are the questions that former McDonald's executive Pereyra, who opened locations across Asia during his 23-year tenure, attempts to answer in his first book. He discusses feasibility, values, sustainability, strategy, recruitment, and training among other topics. Each chapter ends with takeaway points and actionable items for readers. The business advice Pereyra provides seems to be the source of his personal success; however, his points are not much different from those offered by other business books on the market now. What is unique about this title is the culture clash the author experiences in his adopted country of Australia (he was born in Mumbai) as well as the conflicts between McDonald's brand and nontraditional markets in the South Pacific and Middle East. Verdict A memoir dressed in business attire, this book is fun to read for the cultural perspectives it provides and the story of the McDonald's brand overseas. Skip it as a serious business reference.-Poppy Johnson-Renvall, Central New Mexico Community Coll., Albuquerque (c) Copyright 2012.
