Kirkus Book Review
Ross' manic, very British cartoons give some ramshackle humor to this familiar folk tale. There are lots of clever touches, such as the pulley hoist used to serve the giant his dinner (and steal his hen) and, in the same series of pictures, the surfacing of the giant's animal-like features. Ross takes his own liberties with the story, giving Jack a sister to no apparent purpose. His views of the rich family, once the hen and the gold pieces have been retrieved, have their moments. Mostly, though, Ross makes horseplay of a tale that has much more to offer small children. Copyright ©Kirkus Reviews, used with permission. There are no comments on this title.
