Enhanced descriptions from Syndetics:

Integrating words and pictures, this is a family reference book on astronomy structured so that the individual themes of each spread make up a complete visual story and a self-contained module. On every spread there is a specially shot colour photograph of objects shown in close-up detail.

School Library Journal Review

Gr 6-10‘This title begins with two-page overviews of the history of astronomy, early instruments used in both astronomy and navigation, and astrology. Double-page spreads on optical and radio telescopes, observatories, spectroscopy, the solar system, the sun and moon, and each planet follow. The book concludes with a discussion of meteors and cosmology. The illustrations consist of small, full-color reproductions of paintings and full-color drawings and diagrams; all have captions that often contain more information than the introductory paragraph they surround. An excellent introduction to the topic.‘Margaret M. Hagel, Norfolk Public Library System, VA (c) Copyright 2010. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc. Horn Book Review

Enhanced by well-captioned color photographs and drawings, the text conveys the excitement of discovery experienced by astronomers over the past several centuries. Covering the history of the science, the comprehensive volume includes discussion of sundials, optical principles, observatories, the planets, space exploration, supernovas, and black holes. Both male and female scientists are featured. Ind. From HORN BOOK 1994, (c) Copyright 2010. The Horn Book, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc. No redistribution permitted.
