School Library Journal Review
Gr 6-10-After introducing readers to a young person whose family's livelihood is dependent on the titular biome, the authors turn to a question-and-answer format to present additional information. Topics include the biome's structure, plant and animal life, and environmental threats. Pages of facts and statistics follow the narrative sections. Lists of books, Web sites, and environmental organizations provide suggestions for further exploration. Each volume includes appropriate maps and full-color photos. They are usually small and seem squeezed into pages of text with almost no white space. Visual appeal is further reduced by colored text boxes with information on related topics or opposing viewpoints. However, the books seem aimed at report writers, not browsers, and libraries in need of additional resources may want to purchase them as supplemental material.-Kathy Piehl, Minnesota State University, Mankato (c) Copyright 2010.
