Royston adds to the Protect Our Planet series with this very basic introduction to some of the causes and effects of global warming. Between an opening photo of the earth with two labels Land and Water and the cogent closing observation that Carbon dioxide created in one part of the world causes global warming all around the world, she discusses extreme weather, changing climates, melting ice caps, alternative sources of electricity (though without mentioning nuclear power) and low-carbon living. Young readers will come away not frightened, but understanding why they should be concerned and motivated to consult the four print or Web resources cited at the end for more information and helpful suggestions about what they can do to help.--Peters, John Copyright 2008 Booklist
