CHOICE Review
Although demand in American libraries for books about cricket may be low, this one deserves a second look. It gives a basic history of the sport and has chapters on its culture, equipment, and controversies. The encyclopedia portions are spread throughout the book. The first summarizes cricket in the nations where it is played, including the US. The others cover famous players (including a separate more detailed section for "legends") and the most famous cricket grounds. The wonderful illustrations emphasize the worldwide scope of the game. The absence of any bibliography, either with individual entries or as a general reading list, limits the work's reference use. For Americans, an explanation of cricket rules would be helpful. ^BSumming Up: Recommended. Academic libraries collecting in sports. D. S.
