Booklist Review
Magic-trick books for kids are as common as a set of playing cards, but the QEB Magic Handbook series is uncommonly good. Rather than using photographs though they sound sensible, photos usually end up being confusing this series uses sharp, comprehensible illustrations set up on old-fashioned marbled backdrops. Bonus: the pages themselves are thick enough to stand up to most trick-related mishaps. Each volume begins with a list of necessary props, and sidebars featuring famous magicians proliferate. Best of all, the friendly, crystal-clear text makes this one of the most coherent series in the genre. Magical Illusions is heavy on advance preparation but is at its most effective when it stays simple, as with the unforgettable upside-down card trick. No back matter at all, but who needs it? This is a one-stop shop--Kraus, Danie. Copyright 2010 BooklistHorn Book Review
Each volume shows budding magicians how to perform fifteen tricks or illusions through illustrated step-by-step instructions. Sidebars include explanations of how the tricks work, performance tips, as well as descriptions and photographs of world-famous magic acts. The clear explanations and entertaining activities will satisfy readers and make them feel like actual magicians.
