CHOICE Review

This comprehensive handbook's editors, academics from Australia, Canada, and the US, aim to provide a broad overview of research in organization studies. This revised edition includes updates from the first edition (1996) and completely new chapters that reflect recent developments in the field. The 30 chapters are divided into two parts. The 13 readings in part 1, "Theorizing the Field," focus on the relationship among organizational studies theory, research, and practice and include discussion of a range of related topics (e.g., ecology, economics, critical theory, complexity science, feminist organizational studies, and data and research), with chapters by Joel Baum, Jay Barney, and Bill McKelvey, among others. The 17 chapters in part 2, "Exploring the Issues," address the most significant organizational studies issues, including globalization, environmentalism, leadership, decision making, social cognition, organizational identity, communication, culture, power, networks, competitive advantage, innovation, radical organization change, emotion, and compassion. Chapter authors include Margaret Neale, Stella Nkomo, John Jermier, Joanne Martin, and Peter Frost. A valuable addition to business and sociology collections. ^BSumming Up: Highly recommended.
