It doesn't often happen--but this is a teeny tiny scare story tailor-made for a picture book. To properly gloomy, properly eerie full-color pictures--inhabited only by a black cat--are set the words: ""Once upon a time there was a dark, dark moor./ On the moor there was a dark, dark wood./ In the wood there was a dark, dark house""--until, going through a dark, dark door, and up some dark, dark stairs, down a dark, dark passage, into a dark, dark room. . . we find a dark, dark cupboard. And in a dark, dark comer, is a dark, dark box. . . ""And in the box there was. . . A MOUSE!"" A terrified mouse in a snug little room of a house.
