Booklist Review
Harold the fox loves few things more than eating cheese and solving mysteries, so he's not particularly interested in going to Donkey's costume party, which is unlikely to feature either activity. Regardless, Harold's father convinces him to go, and the young fox suits up as an eyeball and joins the festivities in the forest sort of. Harold feels uncomfortable and left out until Donkey's birthday cake is stolen during one of the games. A mystery is afoot! Harold springs into action, questioning suspects and searching for evidence, but can he discover who the cake crook is? Boldt's vintage-style illustrations (think Little Golden Books) offer endearing glimpses into the story's action, accurately portraying the mayhem of children's parties and the anxiety they can bring shy individuals. As the mystery's pieces fall into place, Harold gains confidence and finds a way to connect with other kids. Hankering for more snack-based whodunits? Try Robin Newman's The Case of the Missing Carrot Cake (2015) or Travis Nichols' Betty's Burgled Bakery (2017).--Smith, Julia Copyright 2018 BooklistThere are no comments on this title.
