CHOICE Review
This edited volume focuses on the results and implications of the Canadian Community Health Survey of 2005, which examined the most common mental health disorders in Canada--major depression, mania, panic disorder, social phobia, and agoraphobia--as well as additional thoughts and behaviors related to mental health and well-being. It is divided into six parts: (1) "Context and Theory"; (2) "Methodological Issues"; (3) "Epidemiology of Disorders"; (4) "Special Topics"; (5) "Mental Health Care Services and Policy"; and (6) "Final Thoughts." The analysis covers specific categories of mental illness and the impact of psychiatric disorders on special populations. The volume is dedicated to Alexander Leighton (1908-2007), the founder of the Canadian Academy of Psychiatric Epidemiology and architect of the long-running Stirling County Study. The essays will be of interest primarily to those who work in mental health and psychiatry in Canada. Summing Up: Recommended. Researchers and professionals/practitioners. K. H.
