A missile tears a passenger plane from the skies over London. Everyone on board is killed, including thirty-seven special children. As terror turns to international chaos, can the government survive...'
Who would have killed them? And why? When Harry Jones starts searching for answers, he stumbles into the middle of a plot that stretches from Russia to the Islamic revolution in Egypt, from the shores of the Caspian Sea to an ancient church in rural Wiltshire. Yet every lead he pursues finds its way back to the secret corners of Brussels and a British woman named Patricia Vaine.
She and Harry are doomed to fight their battle to the death. Their own lives, and the future of an entire continent, are at stake in what develops into the greatest political power game since the end of the Second World War. For this is a plot not just to take over one country but the whole of Europe. And in this deadly game, the victors will claim total victory - unless Harry Jones can stop them...

Publishers Weekly Review
Though life has been good to Harry Jones, the star of Dobbs's slickly crafted thriller series, the millionaire Parliament member's fifth adventure (after 2011's Old Enemies) sees him blindsided by his own curiosity about an airplane crash. After Harry asks one too many questions about an Airbus jet that plummeted into the Thames and killed everybody aboard, including 37 children, his life begins to inexplicably collapse. His considerable bank accounts mysteriously drain; his re-election campaign is beset by oddly timed blunders; and-worst of all-he's framed for a sex crime. Only after he's been reduced to nothing does Harry start tracking his mysterious foe, an obscure arm of the E.U.'s security network, and its role in a massive natural gas pipeline project. With an extremely likable hero, clever insights into popular culture, and the best elements of thriller fiction, Dobbs slowly tightens his grip on the reader to a ratchet-hold. Days before Christmas, terrorists bring down an airliner over London, sending it crashing into the Thames. Harry Jones, the millionaire MP, won't take this sort of thing lying down, but even Harry, a British army veteran and no stranger to the behind-the-scenes machinations of global politics, is shocked to see just where his investigation takes him. What's especially interesting about this latest Jones thriller is when it is set: during the Christmas season, when government offices close for the long holidays. The author takes several opportunities to examine how bureaucracy can slow to a standstill, potentially putting lives at risk. The book is not just a thriller but also a kind of political commentary (the author is a politician himself, as well as a writer). Fans of the Harry Jones series will want to get their hands on this one ASAP.--Pitt, David Copyright 2010 BooklistThere are no comments on this title.
