Library Journal Review
Bowen is a British textile artist who has worked in several media, including wood turning, jewelry making, and photography. This is her collection of designs for 15 different handbags, some sewn with luxury fabrics like velvets, satins, chiffons, and silks, and many embellished with separately made floral motifs. A variety of textile techniques--including cutwork, shirring, ruching, ribbon weaving, embossing, Mexican pleating, slashed layers, and silk painting--makes for an interesting mixture of designs. There are brief tutorials for each of these techniques as well as general information on design for readers wishing to use the patterns as a springboard for their own creations. Projects will appeal to readers with intermediate sewing skills. Consider for large public library sewing collections. (c) Copyright 2010.
