Booklist Review
Whatever the weather, it's all covered here! Kostigen's exciting offering fits a niche between weather books for younger readers and adults. In consistent National Geographic fashion, this eye-catching work is filled with captioned color photos, an always-interesting narrative flow, and text boxes with varied tidbits: for example, one introduces gadgets appropriate for survival kits, while another shows how nature provides hints about how to approach various weather systems. Other text boxes give eXpert hints and suggestions on what to do before, during, and after a violent weather event. While the book will likely be popular, two concerns do surface: in many instances, mixed-font text is superimposed on a busy photograph, making it difficult to read; and Kostigen's sources for further reading include only three websites and no books. Regardless, this is a snazzy, engaging presentation, which is being released simultaneously with his adult title National Geographic Extreme Weather Survival Guide.--Petty, J. B.
