CHOICE Review

Arnott (Boston College) and McMillen (Univ. of Illinois, Chicago) have compiled an exceptional collection of essays that covers the core of urban economic theory. There are 31 essays, each forming a chapter in the book. Chapters are divided into seven sections on urbanization, urban land use, housing and real estate, urban transportation, urban public economics, urban labor markets and macroeconomics, and quality of life. The finest economists in the field have contributed to the volume, and their essays provide a breadth and depth of coverage impossible to find in any other single volume on the market. While those with undergraduate training in economics will easily digest most of the essays, a few will be inaccessible to all but graduate students and professional economists. Nonetheless, this is an invaluable resource for any academic or professional library, and it should certainly be in the collection of any professor teaching a course in urban economics. ^BSumming Up: Essential.
