CHOICE Review

This "thorough, historical and theoretical rereading" of McLuhan's oeuvre and career extends earlier analyses found in Graeme Patterson's History and Communications (1990), Arthur Kroker's Technology and the Canadian Mind (1984), and Donald Theall's The Medium is the Rear View Mirror (1971). However, Willmott's McLuhan is a newly dressed emperor, a Foucauldian agent provocateur disguised as the Sorcerer's Apprentice, "eccentric modernist ideal[ist]" and postmodernist "mask-wearer ... master of the ^D D. R. McCarthy Huron College
