The Littlest Christmas Tree wants to find a home for Christmas in this companion to the bestselling favorite The Littlest Pumpkin. There are only five days until Christmas, and the Littlest Christmas Tree is still waiting for a home. All it wants is for a family to take it home, decorate it, and sing its favorite song, "Oh Christmas tree, Oh Christmas tree, how lovely are thy branches..." But as Christmas nears, and one by one the other trees find homes, the Littlest Christmas Tree begins to think that no one will ever take it home. And then, on Christmas Eve, its wish comes true when the man who runs the Christmas tree stand takes it home to his family.

School Library Journal Review
PreS-Gr 1-The Littlest Tree on the lot anxiously awaits a real home, where its wish to be a Christmas Tree can become a reality. After being passed up by all the shoppers, the tree has a happy, dream-come-true ending when the proprietor takes it home for his son. Full-page illustrations and an occasional spread feature fuzzy-looking animal townspeople, while a soft watercolor palette adds charm to this simple tale. Youngsters will bask in the warmth and festive glow of the Littlest Tree's wish fulfillment, which is effectively conveyed through images and words.-Lisa Falk, Los Angeles Public Library (c) Copyright 2010. Standing in a crowded Christmas-tree lot, the Littlest Tree hopes that one of the animal families will choose it, take it home, decorate it, and gather around to sing its favorite caroles, but they all choose other trees. At dusk on Christmas eve, the squirrel selling trees closes up the lot and takes the Littlest Tree home to his son. They set it up, string it with lights and a garland, and sing to the happy tree. Preschoolers will find the tree a surprisingly sympathetic character, considering that it can do little beyond standing tall and stretching out its limbs. Still, its aspiration to shine, surrounded by a joyous family, is one that young children will understand. Both the simply told story and the appealing watercolor illustrations contribute to the cozy charm of this paperback picture book. Pair it with Robert Barry's Mr. Willowby's Christmas Tree (1963, 2000), another tale in which a small sprig of a tree finds a happy home.--Phelan, Carolyn Copyright 2007 BooklistThere are no comments on this title.
